Best Netflix Shows to Binge

December 28, 2019

Hey all, happy holidays! If you’re anything like me, you’re spending this time between Christmas and New Years indulging in some much needed rest and relaxation. For me, rest and relaxation means a little Netflix time. Keep reading to see what shows I’ve been loving!

You: Season 1 of this show was something I binged in a weekend earlier in the year and Season 2 just came out on the 26th. It’s a millennial thriller with a bit of a romantic comedy feel except in the absolute creepiest way. The acting is so good that it definitely leaves you feeling like the show is real life. And it features Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl!

The Crown: I’m obsessed! This is the show for anyone who is interested in Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family. It’s pretty historically accurate and is super easy to follow. In the season that just came out, they switched actors because the show covers different decades of history and I think they did it flawlessly.

Dirty John: This one is for my true crime lovers! Dirty John is based on a true story and was originally a podcast (definitely worth a listen!) and then they turned it into a Netflix show with Connie Britton as the lead. Such a scary story, especially because it was real life!

Schitt’s Creek: Probably my favorite show on Netflix right now. If you’re going to pick one show from this list, make it this one! Short episodes, super engaging storyline, and soooo funny. It’s about a wealthy family who lost all their money and now live in a very small, tight-knit town. It took me a bit to catch on to this one but it only gets better and better!

Gilmore Girls: No explanation needed for this one. This is the perfect feel-good show for every season, every mood, and everyone. Gilmore Girls is set in the cutest New England town and features the best mother-daughter dramatic duo around. So real and raw!

Broadchurch: This one was heartbreakingly fantastic. I would recommend this for anyone who liked Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books as a kid. It’s not true crime (thank goodness!) but it has that feel. The twists and turns the show takes has you questioning who to trust and what to think all the time. 10 out of 10!

Instant Hotel: I wish they would have endless seasons of this show! Anyone who is an HGTV fan will love this one. Instant Hotel is based in Australia (hello accents!) and features couples who put their homes up for rent – kind of like Airbnb. The couples stay at each rental and rate them, eventually ending up with a winner. My love of interior design and reality TV is showing with this one!

Dead to Me: This one caught me by surprise. I was looking for something to watch and stumbled upon this and was hooked! I don’t want to give too much away but essentially it’s about two women – a young widow and a free-spirit – whose stories intertwine in a way that one of them tries to keep secret. The main characters (Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini!) are so likable and I can’t wait for the next season! Crossing my fingers it’s coming in early 2020.

Imposters: This one is about a con artist who uses love to rob people of everything – sounds dark, right? I would actually categorize it as a comedy because a few of her former targets team up to find her and they actually end up becoming a really great crew. They’ve had two seasons and I’m begging for more!

That’s the end of my shortlist! I definitely have a few more that I recommend but these are my favorites of the moment. What have you been watching recently? Let me know in the comments. Have a great New Year!

My Bachelorette Finale REACTION: Hannah’s Season

August 6, 2019

Ohhhhhhh man. What a season! This season was different in general but it also was the first season that I didn’t look up who the winner was beforehand. Ever since Sean’s season, I’ve looked up who wins because I felt like they barely showed Catherine so when she won, I didn’t know much about her and how her and Sean interacted together. So now I always make sure to read the spoilers on Reality Steve after the first night so I can keep track of the winner throughout the season. But this time I didn’t so it was a total surprise when we got to the end!

So… Hannah and Luke. Every week, I (along with all of Bachelor Nation) was waiting and begging for Luke to go home. Everything he did, I was like okay, this has to be it. And then it wasn’t! He was horrible and I was so glad when he finally went home. I do think he deserved a little bit better treatment on the Men Tell All, though – they were super super hard on him. This whole process has to be difficult, especially when you’re getting nation-wide hate and I just hope he can grow and move on with his life now that the show isn’t airing anymore.

Next up… Tyler. Tyler was my front runner from the beginning. Towards the end, Peter briefly moved into my number one spot but Tyler was the one I was rooting for most consistently. He’s such a catch and, in my opinion, the perfect match for Hannah’s personality. Typically, I’ll have two different people that I’m rooting for in the season… my favorite and then the one who I think fits the best with Hannah and in this season, Tyler was my favorite AND the one who I thought fit best with her. How perfect! I hear they’re getting drinks together soon so I’ll be staying tuned for an update from them!

Last up is Jed. Ugh! I didn’t like him from the beginning – I don’t think anyone did – and then when he admitted he was just there for his career, I don’t think anyone was surprised. But I was surprised he lasted so long and ended up being the winner! Nothing he said seemed genuine and I don’t think they had any chemistry. I’m soooo glad Hannah ended things with him after the cheating information came out but I do hope he meant what he said about being sorry and wanting to be more intentional in the future.

Who do I think should be the next Bachelor? My top picks would be Peter or Mike. I think Hannah had a great group of guys so I hope they pick someone from this season. Who do you think they’ll choose?

Well, that’s it for my recap of this season of the Bachelorette – I hope you liked it! I’d say this was the best season of the Bachelor or the Bachelorette that I’ve ever watched so hopefully it just keeps getting better and better. Thank you for reading and I’ll see you soon with another post!

Q&A

May 14, 2019

Hey gals! It’s been soooo long since I’ve posted, I’m so sorry! Since it’s been a bit since I’ve been on here, I thought I’d come back with a little Q&A. Let’s get started!

How did you get the courage to start a blog? Long story short, I started my blog during my sophomore year in college. I was looking for a creative outlet and a blog fit what I was looking for perfectly! So, I started my site and began writing. I kept it a secret for about 6 months or so so I could find my writing style and to make sure that I liked it enough to make it my “thing”. Once I was comfortable and felt like I had enough content posted, I announced it to my Instagram following and that was that! I wouldn’t say it took a lot of courage because back then, blogs and social media influencing hadn’t really taken off yet so I didn’t feel like I was entering into the huge community that it is today. My best advice for finding the courage within yourself to start one now is to start connecting with other bloggers who you look up to! Once you begin creating those friendships, you’ll see that the community is so loving and uplifting and you’ll have all the support you need to move forward.

Are you a full time blogger? No! I actually get this question a lot so I’m happy to finally answer it on here. My full time job is at a marketing agency – I’m an Account Manager. Basically, that means I’m the liaison between our clients and our in-house creatives such as copywriters, graphic designers, etc. Blogging is an incredibly fun side hustle but I really, really love what I do and I enjoy working in the marketing industry on the agency side.

What’s your favorite store to buy accessories from? Hmmm this is a tricky one! I think I have a few answers. For hair accessories, I’d say Urban Outfitters. For jewelry, I’d say Mejuri. For shoes, I’d say all over! But I think Steve Madden is my favorite shoe brand overall.

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to and where do you hope to travel next? My favorite place I’ve traveled to is definitely Arizona! For the last few years, I’ve been going once a year and it’s my favorite place in the whole world. As for future travels, I’m definitely wanting to go to Boston and Charleston soon. They’ve been on my travel bucket list for years!

How do you edit your photos? I use Lightroom! I had a creative major in college and I learned how to use the Adobe creative suite and never looked back. I use Photoshop sometimes but I’m a huge Lightroom fan. It’s the best and so easy to use!

What is your hair care routine? My hair care routine changes allll the time but right now, I’m using the Pantene Rose Water shampoo and conditioner and once a week, I switch out my shampoo for the Matrix So Silver purple shampoo to keep my hair super bright and white. After I get out of the shower, I put in two pumps of the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Relaxing Balm to prevent frizz. Once in a while, I’ll use a hair mask if I feel like my hair is getting dry!

Where did you go to college? I went to James Madison University! My major was Media Arts & Design with a concentration in Integrated Advertising and Corporate Communications and I loved it. That major/concentration really prepared me to have a job at a marketing agency or at an in-house marketing department and it couldn’t have been more perfect for what I wanted to do. I would definitely recommend!

That’s all for this week, thank you so much for reading! I’m thinking of switching my posting schedule to be once every other week… what do you think? Let me know in the comments. Have a great week!

Podcasts I’ve Been Listening To Lately

September 25, 2018

Hi cuties, welcome back to the Allison in Wonderland blog!  Last week, I asked you on Instagram what post you wanted to see this week and you voted for me to share the podcasts that I’ve been listening to (and loving!) lately so here it is!  I’ve been super into podcasts for the past few months and I’m so excited to share my favorites… let’s get into it!

The first podcast I’ve been absolutely obsessed with is called What We Said.  What We Said is a relatively new podcast featuring Jaci Marie Smith and Chelsea Curtis and they talk about all kinds of various topics.  They put up new episodes every Tuesday and I always listen to it as soon as I can.  The What We Said episodes are about an hour long so it’s great to listen to on your drive to work or at the gym!  When I listen to it, I feel like I’m chatting with some of my best friends!

The next podcast I’ve been loving is called The Goal Digger Podcast.  The Goal Digger Podcast features an incredible woman named Jenna Kutcher and she gives the best advice on social media marketing, branding, and building a better you!  I first found out about this podcast because I came across Jenna’s Instagram profile.  She exudes the most positive energy and has such a love for others – it’s amazing!  I highly recommend this one.

Another podcast that I’ve been listening to non-stop is called The Porch.  The Porch is a young adult and singles Christian ministry in Dallas and they started publishing their sermons on the podcast app a couple years ago.  With my busy schedule, it’s nice to be able to listen to sermons when I’m driving or getting ready in the morning.  It’s something I look forward to hearing every week!

That’s all the podcasts I’m going to be sharing today.  Do you listen to podcasts?  Let me know in the comments below.  Have a great week and I’ll see you next Tuesday!

Things I'm Loving Right Now

22 Years

September 18, 2018

Hey hey hey cuties, welcome back to my blog!  When my birthday rolls around each year, I used to do a blog post showing what I got for my birthday but for the past couple years, I’ve been doing more of a gratitude post so that’s what I’m going to share with you in this post.  Today, I chose to write about a few things, big and small, that I value and am grateful for on a day-to-day basis.  Let’s get started!

  1. Sunshine.  Over the past few years, I’ve really noticed how much energy – specifically creative energy – I get from natural light.  The sun doesn’t have to be brilliantly shining outside but if I can at least see the sun poking out from the clouds enough for the light to fill up my apartment, I’m a happy camper!
  2. Sleep.  Recently, I’ve really noticed how much I value sleep.  I don’t need to get a crazy amount of sleep to be satisfied but sleeping really effects my mood and how I feel physically.  In college, there were many times where I had to either choose sleep or studying and most of the time, I chose sleep because, without sleep, the next day would be a total wash.  Is anyone else like this?  I envy you if you can function with one hour of sleep!
  3. A tidy home.  Living in a clean and tidy apartment/house is something I’ve always needed.  No matter what I have to get done in my day, I always clean first because it allows me to clear my head.  Once I have everything cleaned up and in it’s place, I can fully focus on everything else I have to do.

If you’d like to check out my previous birthday blog posts, click here for last year’s and click here for the year before that.  Please leave a comment below sharing something you’re grateful for – whether it be something big or small!  Thanks for reading and, as always, I’ll see you back here next Tuesday for another brand new post.  Have a great week!

My Bachelorette Finale REACTION: Becca’s Season

August 7, 2018

Hey hey hey, welcome back to another one of my Bachelorette finale reaction posts!  I’ve been writing about the Bachelor and Bachelorette finales for the last few seasons and I think it’s so fun.  Keep reading to hear what I thought of this season!

Starting off with Becca… I really like her!  I think she was a wonderful Bachelorette because she’s super sweet and serious about the process but she also didn’t keep contestants around just for the drama.  She got rid of the crazy ones right off the bat and was left with adorable guys who were there for the right reasons.  Go Becca!  I’m sure going from being a contestant on the Bachelor, winning and getting engaged to Arie, and then being dumped by him on national TV wasn’t an easy process so I’m glad she was able to move on and find someone she thinks she can spend the rest of her life with.

Moving on to the men… I thought Becca had one of the best groups of guys yet.  With the exception of a few, all her men were so, so nice and caring and were very dedicated to her.  The Men Tell All episode was really interesting as well because you could really see how they all just adored her – even after she sent them home!  I think her final three – Blake, Garrett, and Jason – were all especially wonderful.  Overall, I think she made the right choice in choosing Garrett but I honestly think she could’ve been happy with any of the final three men.  Who do you think will be the next Bachelor???  My bets are on Jason but I could see them choosing Blake.

Lastly, I want to chat about the destinations they travel to each season.  I’ve always been so intrigued by the places they choose because I don’t know if it’s all up to the Bachelor and Bachelorette or if the producers choose.  I feel like they would have to have some say in it, right?  What do you think?  If I was the Bachelorette, I would want to go to as many tropical destinations as possible!

That’s all for this season’s Bachelorette reaction post, I hope you loved it!  What did you think of this season?  Please let me know in the comments below.  Be sure to come back next week for another fun post!

About Me

May 1, 2018

Hey babes, welcome to May!  I can’t believe the summertime is almost here!  Thank goodness, right? To celebrate the warmer weather and to welcome all the new readers I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with over the last few months, I wanted to do a get-to-know-me post.  Let’s get started!

1.  My full name is Allison but I go by Alli!  Recently, I’ve had a lot of people on Instagram spell my name differently or call me a different name all together (like Allisan and Allisa) and I think it’s because my Instagram name is my first and last name combined (@allisantmyer) and people get confused because they don’t know my last name begins with the S.  I don’t mind though, it’s interesting to see what spelling variations people come up with!

2.  Mashed potatoes are my favorite food!  Specifically, the Bob Evans Original microwaveable mashed potatoes from the grocery store.  They are seriously SO GOOD.  Pair them with steak or chicken and broccoli and you’ve just made my homemade dream meal.

3.  For college, I went to James Madison University!  I graduated in December 2017 with a degree in Media Arts & Design and a concentration in Integrated Advertising & Corporate Communication.  While I was there, I was involved in a many different clubs and organizations and I had a great time!  Click here to check out my post about my JMU experience.

4.  I hate hate hate doing the dishes but I could vacuum or do laundry all day long.  I don’t know what it is about doing the dishes but a dishwasher will definitely be at the top of my list of things to look for next time I move.

5.  I work full-time at a marketing agency.  I’ve had a few people ask me if I blog full-time but nope!  I spend my days brainstorming and producing different projects for our various clients and it’s awesome!  Would you be interested in reading a post about what it’s like to work in the marketing and advertising industry?

6.  My favorite Netflix show right now is Gilmore Girls!  Over the last few years, some of my other favorites have been Friday Night Lights, New Girl, and 90210.  Gilmore Girls is so cute and relatable and I’m so glad there are so many seasons because I don’t have TV in my apartment so Netflix is all I got.

7.  At the end of the month, I’m going on a road trip to a state I’ve never been to before.  Any guesses?

8.  At some point in my life, I want to live in another state.  I’ve lived in Maryland my whole life (except the four years I lived in Virginia for college) and I want to experience something different.  I’ve thought about Arizona, Utah, or New Mexico.  Do any of you live there?

9.  My interior design style is a cross between mid-century modern, bohemian, and southwestern.  I’ve spent the last few months decorating my new apartment this way and it’s been so fun!  Click here to check out my living room and click here to check out my bedroom.  My office and kitchen reveals are coming next!

10.  Saturday is my favorite day of the week, especially now that I’m working a full-time job.  You can sleep in and still have plenty of time left in the day and you don’t have to worry about doing anything stressful the next day because it’ll still be the weekend!  What’s your favorite day of the week?

That’s all for this post!  I hope you learned a little something about me that you didn’t already know.  Next week, I’m thinking of writing some of my best tips for getting back into shape for the summertime.  Would you be interested in reading that?  Let me know in the comments.  Have a great week!

My Bachelor Finale REACTION: Arie’s Season

March 9, 2018

Hi Bachelor-loving cuties and welcome to my second Bachelor recap!  I’ve been watching the Bachelor and the Bachelorette for years and years now but I only started writing about it last season.  If you want to hear my thoughts on Rachel’s season, click here!  As I said in my previous Bachelor post, I know that the show is a little bit silly and I don’t really agree with their process of finding love but I can’t stop watching it!  All the drama is so funny to me and every season, the girls get nicer and nicer and you can tell they form real friendships with each other so it’s a good guilty pleasure watch for me.

Let me start by saying it was a little bit of a struggle to even get myself in front of a TV to watch all of Arie’s season.  As you might know, I moved into my own apartment in the beginning of January and, while I have a TV, I haven’t set up cable yet.  So every Monday at 8pm, I had to find somewhere to watch the Bachelor.  I am clearly a dedicated viewer!  All in all, I didn’t miss any episodes and I thoroughly enjoyed watching.  I thought they chose a really, really great group of women for Arie and they kicked off the dramatic ones early on, which was very relieving!

Moving onto my thoughts about Arie, I liked him in the beginning!  I thought he was mature, down-to-Earth, and ready to take on the process.  I thought with him being a bit older than the usual Bachelor and being removed from the Bachelor spotlight for a few years, he might have a different perspective than someone coming right out of the process of being on the Bachelorette.  These positive thoughts lasted all the way until the finale and now I’m not his biggest fan.  Although I do agree with him following his heart and choosing the one he sees a real future with (come on, we alllllll could tell he was gonna choose Lauren from the beginning), I don’t agree with the way he broke it off with Becca.  Breaking up with someone should be private and not only did he do it publicly, he did it for the whole country to see.  I can’t imagine how humiliating and hurtful that was for her and I’m glad she stayed so strong when she had the chance to talk to him about it on the live show.

I’m so excited for Becca to be the new Bachelorette!  I think she’s perfect for the role and I can’t wait to see the places she’ll travel to with the men.  That’s one of my favorite things about the Bachelor.  Every season, they go to such cool places that I’ve never thought about going to myself and I love to live through them when they have adventures in new cities.  If you have any ideas as to where you think they’ll go, leave them in the comments below!  I’m thinking South Africa?  We’ll see!

That’s all for this week’s post.  If you enjoyed it, check out my Instagram for a sneak peek as to what I’ll be writing about next time!  Have a great weekend!
