Holiday Gift Guide for: HIM

November 28, 2017

Hi cuties and welcome to my annual holiday gift guide series!  This is my second year putting out official gift guides and I can’t believe we’re already so close to the Christmas season.  This is the first post in a series of two – my Holiday Gift Guide for: HER will be posted in the coming weeks – and I’m so excited to share my ideas for all price ranges with you guys!  Let’s get into it.

My first idea is a nice pair of hiking boots.  I don’t know about your boyfriend, but my boyfriend LOVES to hike so this would be the perfect gift idea for someone who likes to spend a lot of time outdoors.  You can be really sneaky with this one and take a peek at his shoe size when he’s not looking to make sure they’ll fit.  He’ll love them and he’ll think of you every time he puts them on!

My second idea is a combo.  I think it’d be awesome to get your guy a leather iPhone case and wallet set.  For my boyfriend and I’s first Christmas together, I got him a personalized leather wallet and he still uses it today!  I bought it through Etsy so I was able to have the company engrave his initials on the front so that added an extra special touch.  I think the iPhone case would be a fun little gift as well because that’s something no one really thinks about.  My boyfriend has had the same iPhone case ever since he got his phone and it would be nice to give him an excuse to change it up!

My next idea is a classic one… cologne!  This is a great stocking stuffer idea, especially if you’re boyfriend is about to graduate college and start working a full-time job.  If you’re gonna start living and working in the adult world, you’ve gotta smell like one!  Make sure you pick out a scent that he would like though and not just one that you’re obsessed with.

The next idea I have is the coolest one in my opinion and it’s the Nintendo Switch!  This idea is perfect if the guy in your life is a gamer or into technology and it’s an activity you both can do together!  The Nintendo Switch is also great because you can play it anywhere because it doesn’t have to be hooked up to a TV to work.  There are a ton of games you can buy for it so if it’s in your budget, throw in a few games to go along with it!

My last gift idea is a super practical one and it’s a Hydro Flask.  Hydro Flasks are so cool because they keep your drink cold for hours and hours and ice lasts forever in them!  There are a ton of cute colors to choose from and you can get different sizes depending on the person’s lifestyle.  They aren’t terribly expensive either and are super durable so I’d say this is a great gift!

That’s all for this year’s Holiday Gift Guide for: HIM post.  Let me know in the comments which of those ideas was your favorite and if you plan on buying any of them!  In the next couple weeks, I’ll be coming out with my Holiday Gift Guide for: HER post and I have some really, really cute things in there so make sure you check back to get some great deals!  Have a good week!

Things I'm Loving Right Now

12 Things

November 21, 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s blog post!  Today, I’m trying out a blog trend that I’ve seen going around called 12 Things!  Basically, I just talk about 12 different things going on in my life so I can share a little more about myself with all of you.  Let’s get started!

  1. I’m graduating from James Madison University in three weeks!  College has flown by and I can’t believe I’m so close to being done.  I’m planning on doing a blog post in a few weeks talking about my overall experience at JMU so, if you’re interested in that, keep an eye out!
  2. Christmas is in LESS THAN A MONTH!  So far, I’ve put up one holiday gift guide and my second one is coming next Tuesday.  Get excited because I know I am!
  3. I’m going on a post-graduation trip to a very special city!  I’m not going to say where because I’ll be doing a travel post all about it but follow me on Instagram (@allisantmyer) to get a few sneak peeks as to where I’m headed.
  4. My favorite holiday movie is Elf and I can’t wait for it to start playing on TV!  I’ve already been watching Hallmark Christmas movies and I can’t wait for the rest of the holiday movies to hit the TV closer to the end of December.
  5. Speaking of movies, I saw Thor and Justice League over Thanksgiving break and they were awesome!  I really loved Thor but I thought Justice League could’ve been a little better.  If you went and saw them, let me know what you thought in the comments below!

6.  Have you heard of the app Trivia Crack?  It’s so fun!  You answer trivia questions from different categories and you can play against other people and compete.  You can choose to play against random opponents or people you know so my boyfriend and I play against each other all the time!

7.  Did you read my blog post about the online shop called thredUP?  If you use the code WONDERLAND at checkout, you can get 50% your entire order!  Go go go!  It’s good for the whole month of November so there are still a few days left to do some shopping.

8.  The weather has been so amazing in Maryland and Virginia lately!  It’s been a bit chilly so I get to wear my sweaters and boots but it’s not so freezing that it’s hard to be outside.  It’s so nice, especially for walking to and from class at school!

9.  I don’t know about you but I am a crazy Bachelor/Bachelorette fan.  I watch every season and I can’t wait for this season to start in January!  The Bachelor this time around is Arie, who is from Emily Maynard’s season, and it was a complete shock to me that they chose him.  We’ll see how it goes!

10.  My planner is finished in December so I’m on the hunt for a new one.  Anyone have any suggestions?

11.  I just came across AirStream travel trailers and I want one so badly.  I’ve been eyeing the Flying Cloud but it’s so expensive!  Does anyone have one or can recommend another brand that’s a little bit more affordable for a college grad that wants to go on a few road trips?

12.  My favorite holiday dish is sweet potato casserole!  My mom has been making it for as long as I remember and I hope she never stops.  It’s so yummy and we always have leftovers so I get to enjoy it for days and days after she makes it.

That’s all for today’s post!  Thank you so much for reading and be sure to come back next week for my holiday gift guides of the season.  Have a wonderful week!

College

The Best Places to Live at JMU

November 14, 2017

Hey college students, happy Tuesday!  I’m back this week with another college-related post where I’ll dive into the best places to live at James Madison University.  I’m going to include on and off campus residences so stick around to find out where I lived during my time in school!

I started my freshman year at JMU living on campus in the Village.  In the Village, there are many dorm buildings but I lived in Weaver Hall.  A few positive things about the village are 1) it’s located right in the middle of campus so you have a lot of options for places to go to study or eat or hang out with friends and 2) the Village offers suite style living which means that there are three dorm rooms that all share one little common area so it provides a semi-private place to hang out with your suite that doesn’t require going to the bigger common area that’s open to everyone in the dorm.  The biggest negative about the Village is that there’s no air conditioning so in August and September it can get super hot, especially if you’re on one of the top floors.

Halfway through my freshman year, I moved across campus to live in the Skyline dorm area.  Skyline is made up of three dorms and I lived in Chesapeake Hall.  The Skyline dorms are the newest set of dorms on campus so moving from the Village, where everything was old, to Skyline, where everything was newer, was really nice!  Chesapeake is on East campus and located right next to EHall (the east campus dining hall) and Festival so it was awesome to be so close to food and the gym was only a short walk away.  This hall is set up hall style so everyone in the hall shares the same bathroom and the upside of that is you don’t have to clean it because it gets cleaned for you!

My sophomore year, I chose to stay on campus and I moved into the Grace Street Apartments.  The Grace Street Apartments were brand new when I moved in so I got to be the first one to live in my apartment!  Even though JMU calls them apartments, they’re dorm style so you have a kitchen and living room but the two rooms in the apartment are both dorm rooms and each room has two people in it.  Overall, I really liked living there!  There were plenty of washers and dryers so I never had to wait to do laundry and there were a ton of common area spaces to have Bachelor viewing parties with friends or study groups.  The biggest negative in living there was that the train tracks are right next to the building so every morning around 5 or 6am, the train would wake us up and it was so loud that there was no getting used to it.  The living room furniture also wasn’t super comfortable but it was just really wonderful to have a living room after living in a normal dorm the previous year!

My junior year, I moved off campus to the Campus View apartments.  I loved living off campus!  There’s something about having your own room and bathroom that just makes everything a little better.  We were only a five minute drive from campus and we were also in a brand new building so, again, we were the first ones to live there, and we were on the top floor so it was a really nice experience.  The balcony was huge and parking was never an issue so I’d say it was a wonderful place to live.  My only issue with Campus View was that the living room and kitchen areas were pretty dark.  Everywhere else had great lighting but, besides in the bedrooms, there aren’t any windows in the apartment so we always had to have the lights on in the kitchen or else it was super dark.  Also, the pool was pretty disgusting at Campus View but I heard they might be getting a new one with the new clubhouse they just built so cross your fingers!

And lastly, for my senior year, I moved to the Copper Beech townhouses.  Living in Copper Beech has been incredible!  It’s my first time in college living in a house and the separation of floors/levels has been the best part.  Previously, in my other apartments, everyone was kind of on top of each other and there was very little space.  In Copper, there’s a main level with a living room, kitchen, and a bathroom and then there are two bedrooms upstairs and two bedrooms downstairs.  It’s been so nice to have some differentiation between where you hang out and where you sleep and the added space has been priceless!  The clubhouse at Copper is also super nice and the pool is awesome!  The only issue I’ve had so far is the visitor parking.  There are so many people that live in this complex and not nearly enough visitor spaces so you have to be really on top of it when you have guests coming to visit.

That’s it for my overview of the best places to live in Harrisonburg!  Overall, I’ve been really, really lucky with living in nice places and I’m so glad I’m finishing my time at JMU with the best one yet.  If you’re a student at JMU and looking to move off campus and want more advice, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll get back to you right away!  Have a great week and I’ll see you again next week for another post.  Bye!

Daydreaming in Central Park

November 7, 2017

Hi cuties and welcome to this week’s Allison in Wonderland post!  A few weeks ago, I traveled to New York City for the weekend (New York City travel post linked here) and when I was there, I did a photoshoot with one of my favorite Los Angeles based photographers named Taylor Krause!  We started out in the Columbus Circle area and then moved more into Central Park towards the end of the shoot and the photos turned out amazingly well!  Scroll down to take a peek at some of my favorite ones.

Aren’t those photos so neat?  I’m obsessed with them!  If you’re interested in learning more about Taylor or want to book a session with her, follow her on Instagram at @taylorkrausecreative and make sure you’re following me at @allisantmyer while you’re at it.  Thanks for reading this week’s quick little post and I’ll see ya next week for another one!

Fall Tee Trend ft. walk in love.

November 6, 2017

Hey hey hey t-shirt lovers, this post is for you!  I’m back this week talking about one of my favorite brands called walk in love.!  I did a post with them a few months ago (post linked here) about their new tee of the week (#TOTW) trend and now I’m back to share the tee that is being released today!  The two tees I already have from this company are incredibly soft and wonderful quality so I was so excited to work with them again.  Keep reading to find out more about this week’s tee!

For a little background about walk in love., they are a Christian clothing company that carries t-shirts, hats, mugs, decals – all kind of items!  They started the company with the hope of sharing inspiring messages that remind us daily to live as Jesus did.  Because of their mission, most of their merchandise includes Bible verses and I think it’s a really great way to incorporate scripture into your everyday life!

The adorable tee I’m wearing in the photos above is my favorite one yet!  The peach/blush color is incredible for fall and is so great for layering under fun, colorful sweaters.  It says “fearfully and wonderfully made” on the front, from Psalm 139:14, and it’s SO cute and comfy!  I love how the verses on walk in love. tees are so subtle yet so impactful and profound and I’m so glad my collection is getting bigger.  If you are loving this week’s tee as much as I am, click HERE to go to the walk in love. website to check it out!  Also, to get 20% off your order TODAY ONLY, use the code FEARFULLY20 at checkout.  Happy shopping!

That’s all for today’s post, I hope you enjoyed me posting a day earlier than usual this week!  If you’d like to see more fashion posts in the future, let me know because I’d love to write them for you.  Have a wonderful week and I’ll see ya next time!

Buying & Selling Secondhand Clothing ft. thredUP

November 2, 2017

Hi everyone!  As you might know, I typically post on Tuesdays but I’m stepping out and posting today because I have a fun fashion post that I wanted to share with you right away!  Today’s post is all about a company that I’ve been loving recently called thredUP!  thredUP is an online clothing shop (and they have an app too!) where you can not only buy clothes but you can sell them too.  What a cool combo!  They offer a lot of my favorite brands, like Free People (click HERE for the thredUP FP page) and Madewell (click HERE for the thredUP Madewell page), and their items are constantly changing so there are always a ton of new arrivals every day!

Once you’re on the thredUP site, it’s super easy to navigate!  If you want to sell your clothes to them, there are a few options for going about doing that and most of them are free!  thredUP is a great middleman if you’re looking to sell your clothes so you don’t have to deal directly with different buyers.  Buying clothes from them is my favorite part though!  Their inventory is HUGE and they have everything you could ever want or need.

When I visited the site, I was specifically looking for a jacket because it’s quickly getting colder where I live and I needed something to keep me warm as we head into the end of the fall season.  I ended up finding a little bag that I was obsessed with as well so I ordered those two items as fast as I could!  Originally, the jacket (from the brand Ecote) was $89 and I got it for $27.  What a steal AND it’s in perfect condition!  The bag I got was from the Forever 21 brand and was originally $30 but I got it for $14.  Both of these items were such good deals and they both look brand new!

Another thing that I love about thredUP is that they always have some sort of promotion going on where you can get free shipping or a large percentage deducted from your order.  I was actually lucky enough for thredUP to give me my own promo code to share with you guys so you can have a little fun on the site too!  My code is WONDERLAND and, if you enter it at checkout, it gives you 50% off your entire order through the end of November.  It only works for the first 50 people who use the code though so hurry, hurry, hurry!  This would be a great way to knock out some of those Christmas presents you’ll have to buy soon!

If you like the jacket that I got, click HERE for some similar jackets that are on thredUP and click HERE for a few other items by the Ecote brand.  If you’re loving the bag I got, click HERE for more crossbody bags that are similar to mine and click HERE for a bunch of other Forever 21 items!

That wraps up today’s post, I hope you loved it!  All the photos in this post were taken by my friend Eleftheria so make sure you follow her on Instagram at @elefthographia for more amazing shots!  I’ll be back on MONDAY with another fun fashion post so don’t miss it.  Have a great weekend!
