A Year of Blogging

January 31, 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s very special, sentimental Allison in Wonderland blog post!

What makes this week’s post more special than usual is February marks the one year anniversary of this blog.  I started this blog not really knowing how long I was going to keep up with it, or if I was even going to like it and it ended up turning into one of the best, most challenging adventures in my life and I’m so excited I get to share my favorite memories from this past year with you!

For the first six months that I had my blog, even though I was posting regularly, I didn’t tell anyone about it except for my family and my boyfriend.  I wanted to make sure I was doing it for the right reasons and, looking back, I’m so glad I went about it in that way.  It gave me time to figure out the direction I wanted to go with my blog and my style of writing before a lot of people I knew personally were reading it.  Without that weight on my shoulders, I was able to write about the things that I was experiencing and get a feel for myself as a new blogger before putting it out there for the world!

In reflecting on the year, I think the most exciting thing to happen to my blog was my blog makeover that happened a few months ago!  I was able to partner with a wonderful company who transformed my blog into a site that’s much more user friendly and professional.  I can’t wait to carry that momentum into this year and post a lot of new, creative content for you!

Throughout the year, I grew a lot as a writer and a blogging personality and I’m so thankful to my readers, both those I know in person and those I don’t, for supporting me and reading my posts week to week.  I’ve written about a variety of topics and I want to continue to write about those in the coming year, but I also want to incorporate other, newer topics that I’ve never covered before.  If you have any ideas or specific posts you’d like to see, please comment below and let me know!

I’m so excited for the next year of Allison in Wonderland and I can’t wait to see where it takes us!  Thanks for reading and, as always, see you next week!

My Top 3 Spotify Playlists

January 24, 2017

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s music-related post!  I did a blog post like this about a year ago, so I thought it was time to do a little update on what I’ve been listening to so far this winter.  I hope you enjoy!

1.  Discover Weekly

Discover Weekly is a given (or at least it should be)!  Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for new artists and songs and this playlist is perfect for finding your new sound.  This playlist has all different genres, so you’re bound to find at least a couple songs you love!  Give it a try next time you hop on Spotify – I promise you won’t be disappointed!

2.  Evening Acoustic

This playlist has a lot of artists like Bon Iver, Hozier, and the Civil Wars so if you like any of those artists, this can be your new, go-to playlist!  Lately, I’ve had it playing in the background whenever I’m just hanging out in my room, doing work or even just relaxing.  If you’re having a night in, light a candle and turn the lights down; it makes it so cozy!

3.  Your Favorite Coffeehouse

This playlist is a new find for me!  I don’t know if they just added it or if I just came across it but I’m keeping this one for the long haul!  It’s exactly like it sounds like it’d be, acoustics mixed with Indie classics and I’m obsessed.  This playlist is what you imagine the soundtrack of your life to be and I can’t wait for my next road trip to be able to listen to it all the way through!

Those are my top 3 Spotify playlists of the moment – let me know if you have any favorites!  See you next week!

New Year, New Glasses ft. Warby Parker

January 17, 2017

Hi everyone, welcome back to the blog!  Today, I have a fun fashion post featuring Warby Parker.  If you’ve never heard of this company before, I’m so glad you’re hearing about it now because it’s one of the best eyeglasses companies I’ve ever ordered from!  Keep reading to get the scoop!

I first heard about Warby Parker around a year or two ago but was never really invested in it until recently, when I realized I needed a new pair of glasses!  One cool thing about Warby Parker is that you can do an at-home try on with five pairs of glasses.  You just go on their website, choose five frames, and they send it to you!  It’s free and you get free shipping!  How cool!

Once you receive your frames in the mail, you get to keep them for five days.  The idea is that you wear one pair each day and see which one is your favorite!  All you have to do after that is send them back and order the frames you want online!  The whole process was really, really easy and they made it such a nice experience!  Even adding your prescription to the order was convenient because all you have to do is upload a photo of the prescription paper to their website!

Out of the five frames I chose for the at-home try on, I only loved two of them, which are pictured above.  I’d love to hear which pair you like better and which pair you think I chose!  I’ll have to reveal which one I got next week.  Well that’s about it for this week’s post on Allison in Wonderland, I hope you enjoyed it!  See you next time!

I Chopped My Hair

January 10, 2017

Hi everyone and welcome back to Allison in Wonderland!  Today I have some exciting news… I cut my hair!  If you’ve seen photos I’ve posted in other blog posts or on my Instagram, you might remember that my hair was very long and this past week, I cut a lot of it off!

I’ve been thinking about cutting my hair for a while now and I’m so glad I finally did it!  I was a bit nervous going into my appointment because I cut it this short a couple years ago and ended up wishing I hadn’t, so I’m so relieved it turned out well!

Basically, all I got done was I chopped it to my collarbone and then added some long layers to give some dimension.  I never really straighten my hair anymore so I wanted a cut that would look best curled.  By adding the long layers, I think it will make it more bouncy than it would’ve been!  I also lightened it a little bit but I think I’m going to go even lighter when we get closer to the summertime.

If you have any hair suggestions, leave it in the comments.  I’d love to hear what you have in mind!  See you next week!

Winter Clothing Haul

January 3, 2017

Hi everyone and happy New Year!  I’m back this week with the clothing haul I promised in the last post!  As I mentioned before, the bulk of my Christmas presents were clothes, so I have a few looks to share today – I hope you get some great outfit inspiration for 2017!

Starting off, I got a bunch of sweaters and other really cozy items and one of my favorites is this one from Urban Outfitters!  It’s forest green – one of my all-time favorite colors – and is perfect for layering in the cold weather this winter.  I wore it with a flowy tank I got from American Eagle and I think they complement each other really well!  I love this tank because you can transition it from summer to winter with just a few tweaks in what you pair it with.

Another item I’ve been loving to pair with the sweater with is this adorable pair of boots!  While they’re not the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned, they’re just so cute!  They match the chestnut color in the tank perfectly and are so different from any other shoes I have.  I love how the dip in the boot shows your ankle and adds an interesting side to your outfit!  These are also nice because you can wear them in a lot of different seasons, not just during the wintertime.

One of my favorite gifts I got this year is this pair of sunglasses from Madewell!  I’ve gotten a few things from Madewell in the past, but never sunglasses, and I’m so, so excited about them!  They’re just what I was looking for and I can’t wait to wear them in the summertime!  They’re going to be perfect for taking to the beach, going out on the boat, or even to take on a fun road trip!  Also with these sunglasses came a free case, so if you hurry you might still be able to catch the sale!

I also received this fun top from Free People and I’m obsessed with the color.  I’ve been in love with this shade lately and am so glad my wardrobe can follow along!  It’s always nice to spice up your closet with bright colors in the wintertime and the top is so warm as well!

The last items I’m going to share today are a few pairs of jeans.  I’ve been wearing American Eagle jeans for years and I still love them today!  They fit so well and come in so many different styles!  I got a staple, darker pair for everyday wear and I also scooped up a cute pair of lighter, ripped jeans!  I like how the rips are only at the knees and not super noticeable like some of my other pairs.

That wraps up my winter clothing haul, I hope you loved it as much as I loved writing it!  Let me know if you’d like to see another one in the next couple months.  See you next week!
